Government Spending

Utah continues to be recognized as the “Best Managed State in America”. Utah is one of only a few states that maintain a AAA Bond rating. These achievements come as a result of conservative principles being applied by the Republican Legislature to state budgeting.

As a result of the economic downturn, Utah has experienced decreased tax revenue. Most families, individuals and businesses have also seen decreases in incomes. The only difference is that government can force taxpayers to pay more to replenish state coffers through tax hikes. State government, like families, must re-prioritize and make adjustments.

I will continue to ensure the state lives within its means, and will oppose tax increases that burden already struggling families and individuals.
